Students explore career options

For students at Christel House Mexico, Professional Week is a highlight of the school year. This year 65 professionals representing a wide variety of careers visited classrooms, sharing their experiences and exploring job options for students. 625 students participated in the event. For Efrain T., a presentation on astrophysics with Miriam Carrillo affirmed his plans to study physics, earn a masters and doctorate in astrophysics and eventually work for NASA. “Professional Week gives inspiration,” says Efrain. “It helps in building a path that you will follow for the rest of your life.”

Four students share their experiences at Professional Week:

Frida G. - 11th grade
Did the event help you get ideas for a career?

Yes, it did because even when the people that came to talk with us did not have the career that I was interested in, it still gave me a lot of security about what I want in the future especially at the University.

What was a highlight for you – what professional presentation impacted you?

Veronica Tavizón´s presentation. She said a lot of important stuff, not only about what she does (production) but also about life. She said “The most absurd thing that you like is what you must do.” I think that is so real. Maybe the answers we are looking for are just in the simple and common things we do every day.

Do you have plans after Christel House? What do you want to do?

I´m not sure of what´s coming next, but I would like to study a career on philosophy or communication. I have just one goal: publish a novel. All I want to do is write. All I can do is write. All I know is to write.

Efrain T. - Grade 11

Yes, it did. I already know what I want to study, and the fact that I could talk to the person who studied the same, it helps clear a lot of questions. Professional Week gives you a lot of inspiration. It helps build the path that you will follow for the rest of your life.

What was a highlight for you – what professional presentation impacted you?

We live in a bubble and we just focus on the problems that are in our environment. There are a lot of people with different cultures, different personalities, and that’s what make our world complex. The presentation that most impacted me was the astrophysics, Miriam Carrillo Barragan.

Do you have plans after Christel House? What do you want to do?

I will go to UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) to study physics, make my masters and doctors degree in astrophysics, and the go to the NASA.

Of course, because it cleared my thoughts about what am I going to do.

What was a highlight for you – what professional presentation impacted you?

One of the presentations that impacted me a lot was Juan Musi. He said some things I didn´t think before and he made me imagine a better country with better people and opportunities.

Do you have plans after Christel House? What do you want to do?

I´m thinking about going to study in IPN (Instituto Politécnico Nacional) and then I want to apply for a scholarship in Tecnológico de Monterrey. They came to talk with us and they told us about the scholarships, the campus, and all things and I liked it a lot. I believe that if I study there I will be very happy and enjoy what I do. One of my goals right now is to be happy and have fun, continue studying, and help others to make a better México.
