Christel House Mexico students, staff and their families are all safe following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that rocked central Mexico September 19 while students were still in school. “It was quite frightening,” says Javier Alarcón Benet, Executive Director, “but our staff did an excellent job calming the children, organizing a safe dismissal, and assuring that all students got home safely.” While classes have been cancelled across Mexico City, Christel House staff and students have mobilized to help their neighbors, organizing a collection campaign for clothing, water and food supplies to help those in need. “We stand tall as a country and will continue to do so,” says Javier. “Mexico has shown great humanity, solidarity and care for the people.”
